A time capsule for the future

Environmental samples from Norwegian nature will now for the first time be collected in a national sample bank. The Environmental Specimen Bank opens on November 6th and will be a vital tool in the fight against environmental toxins, and NIVA will as a part of CIENS be involved in the daily operations.

Filamentous algae overgrows sugar kelp in Rogaland

- In inner-coastal areas in Rogaland, we see that the sugar kelp is overgrown with filamentous algae. Growth of algae and animals on the sugar kelp chokes photosynthesis and makes the sugar kelp brittle and more likely to break into pieces, says NIVA researcher Eli Rinde.
