Certifications and accreditations

NIVA has several certifications and accreditations. Among these are our certification in accordance with ISO9001, and our laboratory activities are accredited in accordance with ISO17025.

Project implementation is certified in accordance with ISO9001:2008

We want to assure our customers that we maintain high quality standards in our implementation of projects. In March 2011 we were certified in accordance with ISO9001:2008. This demonstrates that NIVA's project implementation fulfills standards for excellent quality assurance.

• The certificate is awarded for production/deliveries of research-based services and products within environmentally related subjects. 
• Certification number: 984
• The certification was carried out by Norway's National Institute of Technology (Teknologisk Institutt).
• Certification is valid until 21 March 2014, and is revised annually.
• Certification does not include NIVA's research projects.

Our laboratories are accredited in accordance with ISO NS-EN ISO/IEC 17025

NIVA's laboratorial activities; organic and inorganic chemical analyses, marine soft-bottom taxonomy and sampling are accredited in accordance with NS-EN ISO/IEC 17025.

For marine soft bottom macrofauna the soft bottom standard NS-EN ISO 16665:2005 is also included in the accreditation.

The accreditation number is TEST 009.

NIVA abides by the OECD's principles for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)

NIVA's ecotoxicology laboratories perform tests in accordance with the OECD's Principles for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and in compliance with Directive 2004/10/EC of the European Parliament and of the European Council. The laboratory is included in the Norwegian Accreditation registry of GLP-inspected laboratories and is subject to the provisions of the Norwegian Accreditation's GLP scheme. Our registration number is GLP 007.

The laboratory is accredited in accordance with ISO NS-EN ISO/IEC 17043

NIVA is the first laboratory in Norway to gain accreditation for implementation of the conformity assessment of laboratories in chemical analyses in compliance with NS-EN ISO/IEC 17043. NIVA offers several different programmes to cover a broad spectrum of sample types, analysis variables and concentration levels. Our accreditation number is PT002.

NIVA is registered in Achilles and Sellihca

Achilles Joint Qualification System is a collaboration between Norwegian and Danish oil companies and main contractors. Participating companies use the system to identify and get information about potential suppliers. Our Achilles ID number is 15312.

Sellihca is a qualification system which is based on collaboration between Nordic energy companies. Participating companies can get information about potential suppliers of goods, services and contracts. Our Sellihca ID number is 108899.
