Mission

KELPEX will to quantify kelp production and export and assess the role played by this export in shaping the structure and functioning of communities adjacent to kelp forests, both shallow and deep, in arctic Norway. KELPEX is funded by the Norwegian Research Council (2016-2018) and includes an international team of researchers, postdocs and MSc students from Norway, Denmark, Spain, Belgium, Germany and Australia.

First field campaign uder way in the Malangen fjord, Troms!

A research group from NIVA (NO), RUC (DK), UiO (NO) and AWU (AU) will be working in the Malangen fjord 8-19 August, identifying suitable sampling sites and conducting the first studies on production, growth and decomposition of kelp (WP1) as well as initiating the beach experiments to assess the effect of kelp detritus in the microbial communities of sandy beaches (WP2).

New postdoc appointed!

Karen Filbee-Dexter, from Dalhousie Uni. (Canada) has been appointed KELPEX postdoc. Karen started her new position in NIVA on 8 August and will contribute mostly to WP1 and WP2.
