The National Monitoring Program for Mussel Production, financed by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, is a monitoring program for human toxic algae and algal toxins. The program started in 1992 and is still running on a yearly basis with weekly sampling at around 45 locations, covering more or less the whole Norwegian coast. NIVA is one of three participants in this project.
