Muhammad focuses on research related to advanced treatment technologies for the treatment of drinking water and wastewater reuse. He is interested in novel technologies such as ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) for the degradation/removal of organics and emerging contaminants such as antimicrobial resistance genes. He has strong experience in reuse/safe discharge of complex wastewater matrices (e.g., reverse osmosis brine, landfill leachate etc) using different physico-chemical and biological treatment processes for enhanced performance and energy efficiency. He is also interested in developing robust treatment solutions for small scale communities, treatment of road run-off/tunnel washwater and swimming pool water treatment.
