Therese Fosholt Moe is an ecologist working with research and monitoring projects related to both structural (biodiversity) and dynamic (ecosystem processes/functions) aspects of stream ecology. She is an expert on benthic algae and aquatic plants, including a PhD from 2012 on nuisance growth of the aquatic plant Juncus bulbosus. Moe works on several projects related to status classification of water bodies in accordance with the Water Framework Directive, including managing the Norwegian Environmental Agency’s surveillance monitoring program on reference rivers in Norway. Moe’s work also includes research on restoration and reopening of streams and rivers, especially in urban areas. Her approach is a holistic, catchment oriented view of the challenges, including the aquatic ecosystems and the transition to the terrestrial environment, and also interaction with society (how society affect ecosystems and how functioning ecosystems can benefit society). Moe works with all parts of the projects, including planning, field work, taxonomy, data interpretation, publishing, project management, dissemination and outreach. She routinely publishes reports and peer-reviewed scientific articles and has supervised several master students.
