Maria T. Hultman (2016)Evaluation of primary rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) hepatocytes suitability as a screening assay for estrogen receptor agonists. Department of Environmental Sciences , NMBU, Norway. Thesis number 2016:47, ISSN 1894-6402, ISBN 978-82-575-1306-1.

Hultman was as a PhD-student involved in the AlterREACH project (funded by NFR No.196318) working at NIVA and enrolled in the PhD program at University of Life Sciences (UMB), Ås, Norway.

Her aim in the PhD is to evaluate currently available in vitro methods for toxicity assessment, investigating their potential and limitations when compared to the in vivo model. Mainly focusing on two fish species, rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and zebrafish (Danio rerio), where ecotoxicological testing with in vitro tests: embryo test, cell line and primary cultures will be addressed.

Neus Rodriguez Sanchez (2015).  Development of Alternative Methods to Assess the Toxicity and Bioaccumulation Potential of Chemicals in the Aquatic Environment. Pharmacy & Biomolecular Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom.

Rodriguez-Sanchez was as a PhD student involved in the AlterREACH project (Grant Agreement no. 196318 of the Norwegian Research Council) enrolled in the PhD program at Liverpool John Moore University (LJMU) in September 2011.

Her main work focuses on computational techniques and will be carried out at LJMU, under the supervision of Professor Mark Cronin.  The purpose of her research is to develop in silico methods to predict bioaccumulation potential and toxic effects of chemicals in the aquatic environment. She also assists in the in vitro testing for the determination of chemical metabolism, using liver subcellular fractions (S9) and rainbow trout (rt) hepatocytes cells at NIVA.
