The EU-project NeXOS aims to improve the time-space coverage, resolution and quality of marine observations through the development of cost-efficient innovative and interoperable in-situ sensors and web services for selected applications. New, low-cost, compact and integrated sensors with multiple functionalities are being developed and will be demonstrated on selected observation platforms. Use of standardized protocols and interfaces will enable easy plug-in and autonomous data transfer from the sensor to the web (Sensor web enablement). NIVA is in charge of developing optical carbon system sensors (pH, carbonate) and integrate those with sensors for total alkalinity and pCO2. Additionally, NIVA will coordinate the validation efforts among the developers.
