NIVA are seeking new colleagues!
The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) is Norway’s leading institute for basic and applied research on marine and freshwaters. The institute’s research comprises a wide array of environmental, climatic and resource-related fields. We currently have several positions available.
PhD position in Ecotoxicology
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate with an excellent academic background in ecotoxicology and environmental sciences who seeks an opportunity to conduct research in an international and collaborative research group. This PhD will be a part of an interdisciplinary effort that aims to design environmentally relevant exposure scenarios to assess the potential bioavailability, accumulation and toxicological impacts of different sized plastics using aquatic organisms at the highest risk of exposure, with a particular focus on endocrine disruption.
Research assistant, Water and Society
We are recruiting a research assistant with a strong profile within qualitative social sciences. The position is in NIVA’s section for Water and Society consisting of about 15 researchers with backgrounds in social, economic and natural sciences, where central research themes are climate change and adaptation, freshwater including urban waters management, marine governance, environmental and bioeconomics, ecosystems services assessment; private and public sector innovation, and participatory processes for stakeholder involvement. We work nationally and internationally, from local to global scales and note an increasing interest in our competencies on all levels.
PhD Student Position in Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment
We are offering a PhD Student position entitled: “ANTIfoulants, VEterinary MediciNal Products and Organic Material can affect marine sediment organisms, but to what extent? ANTIVENOM”.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate with an excellent academic background in ecotoxicology and environmental sciences who seeks an opportunity to conduct research in an international and collaborative research group. This PhD will be a part of an interdisciplinary effort that is to develop new tools to be able to determine the combined effects of stressors resulting from aquaculture on the marine sediment environment.
Post-doc position in environmental impacts of transformed nanomaterials
The section for Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment performs research in ecotoxicology, microbiology, cell biology, toxicogenomics as well as chemical and environmental hazard and risk assessment. The section currently offers a 3 year Post doc vacancy to study the environmental impacts of transformed nanomaterials.
The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project funded by the Norwegian Research Council, ENTRANS, to investigate the environmental impacts of transformed engineered nanomaterials released from wastewater treatment plants with a special focus on sub-lethal long-term impacts on organisms of relevant environmental compartments (e.g. sediments). A link between nanomaterial transformation, bioavailability, bioaccumulation and observed toxicity will be established and data will be integrated in fate and exposure models to support risk assessment of ENMs released in soil and sediments. The project is multi-disciplinary involving material and environmental scientists, chemists and toxicologists.
The Post doc position is for 3 years.
Senior Full-stack Developer
NIVA has a broad set of water and water-related environmental data from monitoring programs, field studies, modelling and samples analyzed in NIVA’s laboratories. The data include physical, chemical and biological quantities.
NIVA’s section for Environmental Data Science is working with the “digitalization of environmental research” in Norway. We are currently tasked with developing a new and modern data platform including capabilities for delivering future digital services. The goal is to bridge the past, present and future when it comes to how we conduct environmental research and by doing so we strive to help our society become more sustainable. As a part of NIVA’s ongoing efforts to develop new data platforms and digital services, we are hiring a full-time senior developer to our Environmental Data Science team.
