Profile

Marit Norli is a marine biologist (MSc) with an education in marine ecology from NTNU in the study program Marine Coastal Development. She has an interest in phytoplankton species abundance, distribution and bloom variability and light harvesting efficiency.

She currently works with identification of phytoplankton in both the national monitoring program for shellfish production and ØKOKYST. She is also project leader or coworker on several projects with the Imaging FlowCytoBot (IFCB). The IFCB takes automatic samples of seawater and takes pictures of phytoplankton. Taxon specific cell numbers and biovolumes are calculated using machine learning.

Previous important projects has been both nationally and internationally within monitoring of phytoplankton and water chemistry using FerryBox and/or fieldwork (Inner Oslofjord, Outer Oslofjord, Ocean Acidification Monitoring, MyOcean) and validation of satellite measured optical parameters (HighROC, Satellite Ground Truth).

She is experienced in FerryBox operations and time-series; ocean carbonate system determination (VINDTA alkalinity and inorganic carbon analysis, pH); bio-optical properties (spectrophotometry, spectrofluorometry); physiology (HPLC, phyto-PAM).
