Summary

The objective of this study was to make an area based classification, which can be used to classify Norwegian lakes with no monitoring data with respect to acidification status. The area classification was based on modelling of 990 lakes with the MAGIC model and transferring the model results to a grid covering the entire country. The results showed that about 7% of Norway’s area has lakes with less than good acidification status. They also showed that the recovery will continue to be slow, and even by the end of the century there will be acidified areas in Norway.
