Summary

Along the Chinese coast from ShangHai to Guangzhou htere are loess dunes that causes dust problems when strong winds come inn from the sea. This was prevented 30 years ago by planting a coastal protective forest with imported tree specie (Horstail Beefwood) from Vietnam. This forest is now mature and is no longer efficiant in preventing the dust. Local forest management is to remove the entire biomass (including roots) and try planting new trees. This has been no sucsess. Our reccomandations was to leave the existing biomass in site and plant local tree species in the already existing forest.
