Åse Åtland is research manager at the Aquaculture section, and also manager of NIVAs regional office in Bergen. She holds a Pd.D. from the University of Bergen on the topic water quality and fish behaviour. Åtland works primarily with issues related to water quality, metal toxicity and development of water treatment techniques to improve fish health and welfare. Her work experience includes both projects related to wild salmon and the aquaculture industry. She was also responsible for NIVA establishment in Chile in 2008, and has a large network in the aquaculture industry in Norway, Chile and Scotland / UK. Åtland has led a number of projects financed by the Norwegian Research Council, and has also been involved in a number of EU-projects.
