Profile

Ashenafi Seifu Gragne, a Hydrologist and Water Engineer, holds a PhD in Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering from NTNU (2015), an MSc in Water Science and Engineering from IHE Delft (2007), and a BSc in Hydraulic Engineering from Arba Minch University (2002). His expertise spans geosciences and hydraulic engineering, focusing on hydrodynamic modelling, sustainable drainage, and flood and wastewater management.
His work involves the modelling and optimisation of urban water networks and SUDs, designing and assessing SUDs (nature-based solutions), predicting pollutant emissions from point and diffuse sources, and short-term hydrologic forecasting. He is proficient with GIS, various hydrologic and multidimensional hydraulic modelling tools, and data assimilation and spatiotemporal data processing using R and Python. Besides his experience in research project management and mentoring, he possesses extensive experience in infrastructure design and construction management, covering sanitary landfills, rural water supply and sanitation, urban drainage, and irrigation systems.
Ashenafi has gained wide international experience through his studies in Ethiopia, the Netherlands, and Norway, and exchange periods in Italy (2009), Australia (2012), and Sweden (2013). He has worked extensively in Ethiopia and Norway and maintains a strong network in sub-Saharan Africa, reflecting his desire to contribute to societal transformation through advisory, research, and development efforts.
