Ian’s research work focusses on the understanding of contaminant fate and transport in the environment and availability to biota and humans. Much of his work is towards the development of passive sampling techniques for the measurement of available and mobile contaminants in water, sediments and air compartments. These tools are applied to further our understanding of contaminant transfer between air, water and sediments, to predict benthic invertebrate concentrations and to screen for the presence of unknown and potentially bioaccumulative substances in the environment. Lately his work has been on the in vivo application of passive sampling to freshwater fish and the measurement of lipid-silicone partition coefficients. He also has a general interest in the application of passive sampling techniques as part of routine monitoring programmes such as for the Water Framework Directive, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive or as part of OPSAR’s requirements, He has co-authored 9 book chapters and over 30 peer-reviewed articles. He has also co-authored over 20 NIVA reports. Google Scholar page: http://scholar.google.no/citations?hl=no&user=4wbxlcAAAAAJ
