Summary

Microplastics and macroplastics are persistent pollutants that have become a growing concern in recent years. The presence of these plastics in the environment has raised questions about their potential impact on human health and the health of ecosystems. Sampling and analytical techniques are crucial for detecting and characterizing these plastics in the environment. In this chapter, we review the current state-of-the-art sampling and analytical techniques for microplastics and macroplastics. Analytical techniques used to identify and quantify microplastics and macroplastics, including spectroscopic techniques, thermal analysis, and imaging techniques are also described. Furthermore, we highlight the need for standardized protocols and quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and comparability of data collected by different researchers. Finally, we emphasize on the importance of continued research to develop new and improved sampling and analytical techniques to address the complex challenges posed by microplastics and macroplastics in the environment.
