Summary

This report presents the results of surveillance monitoring of seven large Norwegian lakes in 2015. Large Norwegian lakes have been monitored also before the Water Framework Directive (WFD), but for most of the lakes the earlier monitoring has been limited in time and content. Earlier data are not sufficient for a complete classification of ecological status according WFD requirements. The objective of this first surveillance monitoring of large lakes in 2015 has therefore been to monitor all biological and supporting physico-chemical quality elements, and use the data to assess ecological status in line with the WFD. An additional objective was to test and adapt existing monitoring and classification methods for use in large, deep lakes. The monitoring in 2015 included seven large lakes in Eastern Norway: Randsfjorden, Eikeren, Tyrifjorden, Norsjø, Tinnsjå, Nisser and Gjende.
