ProWind
ProWind, aims to strengthen Norway’s role in offshore wind and establish a unique national infrastructure for research dedicated to offshore wind. In this NGI led project, the NIVA group will lead the work to develop (and make available for rent) state-of-the-art monitoring technologies for offshore wind focusing on acoustic, visual and oceanographic sensors.
About the project
NIVA lead the Offshore Environment Node of ProWind, a NFR funded infrastructure project aimed at developing monitoring technologies for offshore wind that can be used by Norwegian user partners. A range of monitoring tools are being developed including an verticalmooring system that can detect changes in oceanographic parameters throughout the water column. In additional surface autonomous vehicle equipped with visual and acoustic sensors will be developed, alongside a hydrophone and long-term static acoustic sensors on the seabed that together can map responses in marine fauna abundance and diversity to offshore wind activities. These tools will equip Norwegian research institutions, offshore wind developers and other players interested in mapping and monitoring impacts of offshore wind on the marine environment, with the latest and best available technologies.. Development and testing will take place at Norwegian Offshore Wind’s MET Center in Karmøy from 2026.
Equipment is expected to be available for use from 2028.
