Summary

Process based models are applied to study sources of pollution from land and their impact on Bulgarian coastal areas. We use several different models and modelling approaches. The process based SimplyCNP model is used to study apportionment of nutrient sources on land and how effective mitigation efforts can be at reaching riverine water quality targets. The 1D layered NIVAFjord model is used to study sources of pollution to the Beloslav-Varna Lake system. The 3D Oceananigans model coupled to the OxyDep biochemistry model is used to study localized effects of pollution and oxygen depletion in the Beloslav-Varna lakes. The benthic-pelagic 2DBP-BROM model was used to study dynamics and sediment accumulation of pollutants like nickel along the Black Sea coast.
