Petra Thea Mutinova has worked at NIVA as a research assistant since 2016, she currently pursues doctoral studies at the University of Rostock, Germany. Petra specializes in taxonomy, identification and ecology of benthic diatoms and freshwater phytoplankton. She has been involved in several research and monitoring projects concerning biodiversity and ecosystem processes, functions and services, and she has assisted on many diverse fieldwork campaigns. Petra also acquired broad experience with microalgae cultivation from her daily work at the Norwegian Culture Collection of Algae (NORCCA). As an enthusiastic diatomologist, she has been driven to boost the diatom research program at NIVA, and she is motivated with an overall goal to explore the potential for DNA based methods for ecological assessment.
