Sophie is an Environmental Manager and Scientist holding a BSc in Aquatic Ecotechnology from the Hogeschool Zeeland, Vlissingen (NL) and a MSc in Environmental and Resource Management from the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (DE). She had the opportunity to study abroad for a semester, at the Dongguk University, South Korea (2013), and at the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, Colombia (2016). During her studies, she was also able to conduct various internships across different fields, such as river restoration, microplastic research, as well as monitoring and modelling of ecosystems. The first one took place in a district council, Bezirksregierung Duesseldorf (DE), working in the department of water framework directive that supervised and advised local water boards on their freshwater body restoration activities. The second one was in an NGO, Archipelagos – Institute of Marine Conservation on Samos Island (GR). There she investigated the presence of microplastic fibres in the food chain of the yellowmouth barracuda. Additionally, she conducted her master thesis at the research institute Deltares (Delft, NL), where she focused on building a functioning Dynamic Bayesian Network showing anthropogenic pressures in connection with natural conditions of the ecosystem of the Dutch Wadden Sea. Since May 2019, Sophie is a PhD candidate in the department of Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment at the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) and an Early Stage Researcher of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks project ECORISK2050. During her PhD, she will develop and apply a modelling tool for assessing the risk of agricultural chemicals under future scenarios. In order to do so, she will develop a generic Bayesian Network that uses the NIVA risk assessment database and links the risk assessment outputs from other ECOSRISK2050 projects.
