Anastasia Georgantzopoulou is an environmental toxicologist (MSc and PhD in Environmental Toxicology, Wageningen University, The Netherlands - Luxembourgish Institute of Science and Technology, Luxembourg) assessing the toxicity and effects of nanomaterials and particulate contaminants in the environment. She has recently completed her post-doc within the RCN-funded project NanoWaste in which she focused on the behaviour and transformation of nanomaterials in wastewater treatment plants and the effects of transformed nanomaterials on freshwater, marine and terrestrial organisms as well as in vitro cell models. She has been a research scientist in the Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment Section at NIVA since 2017 and part of the GLP personnel. She is interested in the effects of nanomaterials and contaminants of emerging concern on freshwater and marine organisms using standard ecotoxicological organisms. Moreover, she is interested in the use and development of novel in vitro cell-based methods for hazard identification and the elucidation of mechanisms of action. Particular interests also include the characterization of nanomaterials in complex and environmentally relevant matrices, their behaviour, the interaction of particles and emerging contaminants with the organisms and the cellular environment and mechanisms of defence. She has participated in numerous international conferences with oral presentations (SETAC, NanoImpact, SOT, NETS, EmCon) and has been actively involved in popularization of science by video animation means
