Falk-Andersson is a researcher in marine resource management specialising in interdisciplinary tools for approaching various environmental issues. She has an interdisciplinary degree with a BSc from University of Cape Town in ecology and zoology, an MSc in international fisheries management and a PhD in social sciences from University of Tromsø integrating ecological and social sciences in the context of marine resource management. Her main case study has been the Barents Sea ecosystem and respective resource users and beneficiaries, but through her education and research she has also worked on other ecosystems and social contexts. Research topics includes the ecosystem services approach, valuation of ecosystem services, how to handle uncertainty in ocean acidification research and communication, integrative approaches to management of alien invasive species and marine litter. The latter issue has included developing new methods for monitoring and stakeholder involvement to identify preventive measures, as well as identification of sustainable circular economy solutions and management issues regarding downstream solutions to marine litter. Throughout her career she has had a special focus on outreach both to scientific fellows and the general public. In addition to publications in natural and social science peer reviewed journals and presentations at numerous scientific conferences, Falk-Andersson has taken public outreach courses and communicated with stakeholders through focus groups, newspaper articles, project home pages and you tube videos on marine management issues. Falk-Andersson also has extensive experience in writing applications for project funding, including research grants, and running projects.
