Dr. You Song is an experienced experimental ecotoxicologist (>12 yrs) and bioinformatician (>10 yrs). He is working as a research scientist in the Section of Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment at NIVA. His main competence and research interests are: adverse outcome pathway (AOP) development, toxicogenomics (OMICS), bioinformatics, mixture toxicity and multiple stressors, alternatives to animal testing, in silico prediction models, high-throughput in vitro screening, mode of action (MoA) and risk assessment of pesticides, veterinary medicines, heavy metals, radionuclides, ionizing radiation and emerging contaminants. You Song started to work in the laboratory of Norwegian Institute of Water Research (NIVA) since 2009 on a collaborative project with Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). He was employed as a research assistant (2012-2013) and research scientist III (2013-2014) by NIVA, and has been working as a postdoc (2014-2018), and permanent Research scientist (2018-present) at NIVA since then. His research mainly focuses on development of invertebrate AOPs for mechanistic understanding and hazard assessment of environmental endocrine disruptors. He has been actively involved in diverse ecotoxicological research areas, such as bioaccumulation, mixture toxicity, in vitro screening, OMICS and radiation toxicology, and have worked with a broad range of ecologically relevant species, such as waterflea (Daphnia magna), marine copepods (Tisbe battagliai, Calanus finmarchicus), springtail (Folsomia candida), green algae (Chlamydomonas reinhardtii), duckweed (Lemna minor), Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), brown trout (Salmo trutta), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), polar cod (Boreogadus saida), zebrafish (Danio rerio) and Indian forest skink (Sphenomorphus indicus). He is familiar with standard regulatory toxicity testing guidelines (e.g. OECD and ISO) and has substantial experience in D. magna, C. reinhardtii, F. candida and zebrafish embryo toxicity testing. Awards: Taylor & Francis Award for Best Student Presentation. The 4th Norwegian Environmental Toxicology Symposium (NETS), Oct 2012, Tromsø, Norway.
