Janne Gitmark har vært ansatt på NIVA, Seksjon for marinbiologi, siden 2007. Janne avsluttet sin mastergrad i marin botanikk ved Universitetet i Oslo i 2006, og jobbet på prosjektbasis på NIVA frem til hun tiltrådte i fast stilling. Hovedkvalifikasjoner omfatter taksonomi for marine makroalger, vurdering av økologisk tilstand hos organismesamfunn på marin hardbunn i strand- og sjøsonen, dykking som vitenskapelig verktøy (Dykkesertifikat: S-klasse), kartlegging av marine naturtyper, undervannsfotografering og filming.
