Hans is an economist by training and completed his PhD in Development Studies in 2015 at the Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric), Norwegian University of Life Sciences. His PhD work focused on understanding the role of social policy with respect to climate change adaptation in the Western Ghats, South India and his postdoctoral research looked at issues of climate change adaptation, (water related) uncertainty and transformation across geographic context – involving empirical and theoretical issues. His research interests encompass a number of interdisciplinary themes that concern science-policy interphase, knowledge politics, climate change adaptation, urban governance and flooding as well as rural and indigenous people's rights and livelihoods. His publications appeared in the Journal of Rural Studies, Climate and Development, Economic and Political Weekly, Regional Environment Change, among others. In addition, Hans actively communicates research issues through popular scientific articles and has extensive teaching experience at the Bachelor and Master level within the fields of development theory, climate change and environmental sustainability.
