Ingrid Nesheim er ansatt som forsker på seksjon for vann og samfunn og har jobbet på NIVA siden november 2013. Nesheim har tidligere vært ansatt ved Senter for Utvikling og Miljø, Universitetet i Oslo, først som stipendiat (2000- 2006) dernest som forsker (2006 – 2012). Doktorgradsarbeidet omhandlet forvaltning og bruk av biologisk mangfold i et område med ny bosetting og feltarbeidet foregikk i regnskogen i Guatemala. Nesheim har jobbet med prosjektledelse (WP ledelse) og som forsker i EU-prosjektene STRIVER, Strategy and methodology for Improved IWRM and Integrated interdisciplianry assessment in four twinning river basins, og i LUPIS Land use policies and sustainable development in developing countries. Hun har forskningserfaring fra arbeid med IWRM og WFD, brukerinvolvering, impact assessment og klimatilpasning. I løpet av 2011-2013 ledet og utviklet Nesheim MILENs forskerskole ved UiO om miljøendringer og bærekraftig energi. Prosjekter Nesheim har jobbet med på NIVA inkluderer, grunnbevilgningsprosjektet LIVAT - Lierelva vannbruksutfordringer, og Assessment of the combined effects of HPP on the ecosystems and the ecological status of rivers – in Bulgaria (http://www.niva.no/anchor?). Pågående prosjekter omfatter: koordinering av prosjektet, Integrated Water Resources Management, Institutional Building and Training /http://www.niva.no/myanmar , GovClim (leder WP4) http://www.niva.no/govclim og SusWater (leder WP3) http://www.cedren.no/Prosjekter/SusWater. Nesheim har publisert i en rekke internasjonal peer review tidsskrifter og bøker.
